I have been blessed to be a youth pastor now for 7 years here in Ok City. It has been a tremendous blessing. Over that time I have had my fair share of ups and downs, victories and heartbreaks, unbelievable breakthroughs and even some breakdowns. I consider it all joy and I am thankful for every moment of it. Over that time God has taught me many things. One of the things I hold most dear is what he has taught me about leaders. The scripture above in Proverbs speaks of an empty manger because there are no oxen. It is relevant because the oxen eat from the manger and also work the field that produces the harvest used to stock the manger. God has used that scripture lately to remind of the importance of workers and not just workers but happy, strong workers. Over my seven years here at the church we have had 13 youth leaders past/present. Some still work with our teens and some have moved on but I still maintain relationships with them all and count them very dear to what God has done in the ministry here. There are a few things that I have tried to implement to keep our workers happy and healthy. Here are a few:
1. Constant Heart-Felt Prayer for them (constant) [2 Thess. 1:11-12]
-Before I prayed over our kids/students I prayed over our leaders
2. Bless Them Every Chance I Get [Joshua 14:13]
-Never forget to praise them publicly, privately, constantly.
-Never forget what all they have done for you and others and b/c of God
3. Remain Loyal [2 Tim. 1:14]
-When they started working with me they became mine in Christ.
-Defend them, brag about them, challenge them, never quit on themNever forget in your ministry how important your team is. A happy worker is a hard worker!
